Greg Brown

Executive Director, Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability

Greg Brown has more than thirty years of global executive-level experience in and around the food industry, with deep expertise in the fields of seafood procurement, standards, and certification. A graduate of Occidental College, Greg started his executive career while living and working in Singapore (1990-2005), where his posts included over ten years as Director of Seafood Procurement for Darden Restaurants. Greg returned to the U.S. to become Director of Category Management, Seafood at US Foodservice (now US Foods). After four years in that role, and a period operating his own independent seafood consultancy, Greg was tapped to become Vice President of Corporate Procurement for Flying Food Group, and eventually Corporate Strategic Sourcing, Seafood for Caesars Entertainment. In 2014, Greg moved into standards certification at NSF International (stationed in Shanghai for 3 years), in a dual role as Global Managing Director, Seafood and Region Managing Director, NSF China. He returned to the U.S. in 2017 to expand his experience in seafood sustainability standards, joining the executive leadership team at the Global Aquaculture Alliance (now Global Seafood Alliance), whereas Senior Vice President, Operations & Strategic Development, his responsibilities included overseeing certification, program integrity, and CSR functions for the GAA’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP). Recognizing Greg’s outstanding combination of strategic, managerial, technical, and business skills, the GDST’s industry-based Steering Committee unanimously appointed Greg as the GDST’s inaugural Executive Director, effective February 1, 2022.
